Who We Serve

Who We Serve

Designed for adults with developmental disabilities who are ready to take the next step toward greater independence - whatever independence looks like for them.

HCL is home to adults who want more than a place to live, they want neighbors who become friends, a community where they belong, and the freedom to build a life that reflects who they are.

Our residents come with a range of diagnoses, abilities, and support needs. What they share is a desire for independence, community, and a full life.

HCL serves adults 22 and older or graduated from highschool with a primary diagnosis of a developmental or intellectual disability. All prospective residents are considered on an individual basis.

Finding the Right Fit

Is HCL right for your loved one?

HCL is an independent living community, not a care facility. Understanding what that means helps families determine if it's the right match.

Strong Fit

HCL may be a great match if your loved one...

  • Is 22 years of age or older OR has graduated from a highschool program
  • Has a developmental or intellectual disability diagnosis
  • Wants to live more independently
  • Thrives in a social, community-focused environment
  • Has or can arrange their own support providers if needed
  • Is interested in friendships and an active community life
Let's Talk

HCL may not be the right fit if your loved one...

  • Needs 24-hour personal care that cannot be arranged through outside support services. HCL is not a provider.
  • Would be most comfortable in a single-occupancy residence.
  • Is not currently able to safely participate in HCL's shared housing model because documented behaviors pose a significant risk to the health or safety of themselves or others that cannot be adequately mitigated through reasonable accommodations.
  • Is dependent on illegal substances or alcohol
Every situation is unique. The criteria above are general guidelines — all prospective residents are reviewed individually. We encourage families to reach out to discuss their loved one's specific needs before drawing any conclusions. A conversation is always the best first step.

Our Approach

Every resident is an individual and we treat them that way.

HCL is built on a deep belief in the dignity, autonomy, and potential of every person who lives here. Our approach centers on choice, respect, and the understanding that independence looks different for everyone.

We create the conditions for a full life - the community, the safety, the programming, the belonging - and residents lead the way from there.

Choice & Self-Determination

Residents direct their own lives from their schedules, their support, their daily routines. HCL supports without controlling.

Dignity & Respect

Every resident is treated as an adult with their own voice, preferences, and right to privacy.

Growth & Opportunity

Programming, outings, and community life create daily opportunities for residents to grow, learn, and try new things.

Belonging & Joy

More than anything, HCL is a place where residents feel at home, surrounded by people who know and care about them.
