Resident Assistant

Hudson Community Living Company (HCLC) is a unique, new, community-accessible neighborhood designed for individuals with developmental disabilities to help support their quality of life and increase independence.  This is an exciting ground floor opportunity!

Overview

The Resident Assistant (RA) at Hudson Community Living is a vital part of fostering an inclusive, engaging, and supportive community for our residents. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with the Community Director and Assistant Community Director to create meaningful social opportunities, conduct resident check-ins, and help maintain a fun and welcoming environment. Additionally, you’ll facilitate neighborhood-wide community engagement initiatives that promote connection and collaboration.

As an RA, you’ll live on-site in a brand-new, fully furnished apartment and have both regularly scheduled hours and on-call responsibilities to provide an extra layer of support to the community. Expected commitment of approximately 20 hours per week, including some weekend availability, with flexibility to accommodate academic course schedules. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain valuable, real-world experience while making a meaningful impact—and it’s a great addition to your resume!

Education, Experience and Training:

  • We’re looking for someone who’s passionate about working with adults with developmental disabilities. Previous experience is a big plus!
  • You’ve got to have great organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills to thrive in this role
  • High School Diploma
  • Preference will be given to candidates currently enrolled in a university and pursuing undergraduate or graduate degree in a field relevant to this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Community Engagement and Social Opportunities:
    • Conduct regular check-ins with residents to ensure they feel supported and engaged in community life.
    • Act as a resource for residents seeking to participate in social activities or needing assistance with community-related concerns.
    • Assist the Assistant Community Director organize and facilitate social events, activities, and gatherings to encourage community bonding and resident interaction
  • On-Call Duties:
    • Participate in a scheduled on-call system, with clear boundaries established to protect personal time and privacy.
  • Administrative Support:
    • Act as a liaison between residents and the Community Director, relaying any concerns, ideas, or comments.

Benefits

Contract Term: A 12-month contract with the option to renew at the end of the term.

Compensation:

  • Annual Salary: $30,000
  • Deductions: $900 per month for rent, which also includes 5 meals per week.

Housing Benefits:

  • Fully furnished RA apartment provided.
  • RA’s are not responsible for utilities,  excluding cable if wanted

Employment Contract Requirements

  • RA candidate must pass a BCI&I and/or FBI background check
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s license, good driving record and vehicle liability insurance

Community Chef

Overview
We are seeking a Part-Time Chef with the potential to grow into a Full-Time role if needed. This position is ideal for someone passionate about preparing healthy, delicious, and resident-friendly meals in a supportive community setting.

Position Details:

  • Hours: Flexible
  • Dinner Service: 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM Monday through Friday. 

Education, Experience and Training:

Culinary Skills:
Proven experience in preparing and cooking a variety of foods, including knowledge of various cooking techniques, recipes, and food preparation methods. 

Food Safety Knowledge:
Understanding of food safety regulations, sanitation standards, and proper food handling practices. 

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
Ability to communicate effectively with residents, staff, and professionals, demonstrating empathy and respect. 

Organizational and Time Management Skills:
Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, prioritize work, and meet deadlines. 

Teamwork and Collaboration:
Ability to work effectively as part of a team, collaborating with other staff members to ensure smooth and efficient food service operations. 

Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and carry heavy items, and perform repetitive tasks.  

Key Responsibilities 

Meal Preparation & Cooking

  • Plan and prepare nutritious and balanced meals for residents, considering dietary restrictions and preferences.

Menu Planning

  • Work with staff and residents to develop weekly meal plans that incorporate variety and resident feedback.
  • Follow standardized recipes and special diets.. Understand and adhere to specific dietary needs, such as allergies, diabetes, or modified diets. 
  • Prepare food in appropriate quantities to meet the needs of the residents, ensuring portion control and minimizing waste. 

Food Safety & Sanitation

  • Maintain compliance with health and safety standards in food handling, storage, and kitchen cleanliness.
  • Follow proper food handling procedures, including temperature control, storage, and preparation techniques. 
  • Implement and maintain a safe culinary environment, using strict infection control procedures. 

Kitchen Management:

  • Oversee inventory, ordering, and stock rotation to minimize waste and ensure fresh ingredients.
  • Source food locally and cost effectively
  • Inspect supplies, equipment, and work areas for cleanliness and functionality. 
  • Manage and maintain accurate stock control. 
  • Ensure the kitchen and equipment are cleaned and organized after each meal. 
  • Report any malfunctioning equipment or shortages to the appropriate supervisor. 

Resident Engagement:

  • Encourage resident participation in meal planning and occasional cooking activities as part of skill-building and community engagement.
  • Communicate with residents and staff to understand dietary needs and preferences. 
  • Assist in setting up and taking down dining areas, creating a pleasant dining experience.

Compensation:

  • We are open to discussing compensation based on experience and industry standards. 

Employment Contract Requirements

  • Candidate must pass a BCI&I and/or FBI background check  (this will be paid for by HCLC)
  • ServSafe Manager Certification
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s license, good driving record and vehicle liability insurance
